Win7/64 & NX7.5 Assign F8 function key to SpaceNavigator

Post by Ontwerper Ed »

Hello Everybody,

I run NX7.5.4.4 on Win7/64 with 3D Connection Release version 3.15.2/Driver 6.15.2/Firmware 4.04
It seems to be impossible to assign funktion key F8 (which would cause a rotation to the nearest orthogonal position) to a spaceball function key.
Standard assignments, like Fit or Pan etc give no problem...
Any ideas?

Kind regards, Edwin

Do you find no command in the NX Button Mapping Editor that rotates to the nearest orthogonal position?
The more things change, the more they remain the same. ; ^ )

In the NX button mapping editor, I was able to drag and drop 'Function 8' to a button and pressing the button caused my model to re-orient to the nearest Orthogonal View.

Hello Bryan,

Wow, that's fast.
But, unfortunately, no.
Two Things: My button editor only contains:
Back view, Bottom viw, Diametric view, Front view, Iso-2 View, Isimetric view, Left View, Refit View, Right view Roll view CCW, Roll view CW, Top view (3Dx), Trimetric view (3Dx)
So, No Function 8...
On top of that, these setting are somehow overwritten, so changes in NX button mapping don't work...
Settings changes made in the navigator menu work (like for example putting fit under the right button). But putting a function key under the right button is somehow not recognized...

Nevertheless, thanks for your quick response!

Hello Brian,

Our Helpdesk is curious how you managed to get the F8 functionality in the NX button mapping. Was this actually available in rev 7.5, or was it an add-on?

Kind regards, Ed

Without NX open.
Open our 3Dcontrol panel
Click on Button Configuration
Click on Custom Function
Click on New
Enter name for this function
Push f8 key
click save
Close out of the 3Dcontrol panel
Open NX
Open a project
Click on (panel) for Spacepilot, Menu (SpacePilot Pro, Space Mouse Pro, Space Explorer).
Select customize button
This should open up the 3Dx button mapping editor.
Or Select 3DxNX and customize button

Select 3dxware
locate the function you created
drag and drop to a button.
close out of the mapping editor

tested button function

***You may have to close and reopen incase the function is not active***

Hello Bryan,

Nope...Does not work.
Can I send you by email the windows I see?
Maybe you see something obvious then.
I end up with a 3Dx window with my right knob assigned to the function "Nearest_Plane", with command <F8> asigned to it, and no respons at all from NX7.5

I apologize im working with NX 8 and the macros work.
I sent 2 emails to you with the bug issue number that was reported with a possible fix.

Maybe one of the programmers will reply in the post if they know if there was a preset functiuon key for Orthagonal position already added.
It might be listed under a different name.

I'll let you know the results in the forum and email.

Ed,

With NX 7.5 open

Open the Customize button menu
Select 3Dxware in first column
In second column scroll down list and select
Snap View
Drag to a button

click save
Does the command work?
This should be linked to the F8 key command if its working.

hello all,

I am running a win 7 x64 machine with NX 7.5 and an original SpaceTraveler and am having the same exact problem. I am also running the windows vista x64 drivers because there is no software designed for windows 7 x64 for my equipment.

Unfortunately in the 3dxNx i have, there is no option for the "orient view to closest orthogonal view", or "view snap" which is by default bound to f8 in NX 7.5. There is an option called "snap view" but as far as I know it doesn't do anything at all.

Is there a fix for this? I can't get the software to reference my 3dconnexion control panel macros which would be a suitable fix, so I am thinking about trying to disable the 3dxNx.dll file.

any help or info would be appreciated.

Hello Painteater19 -

In this case the issue is with the driver version - your version does not contain 3DxNX for 7.5. The 3DxNX add-in for NX 7.5 was first added in 3DxSoftware Version 3.11.2. The last version for the SpaceTraveler is Release 3.7.22 - it has only the 3DxNX add-in for NX 7.

The legacy SpaceTraveler is not recognized by the software versions containing the NX 7.5 3DxNX add-in.

The issue discussed earlier in this topic with the current add-in and the Windows 7 and Vista UAC is described here in Fred's post.

ahh, that's a shame! is there an easy way to disable the 3dxNX.dll so I can get the software to refer to the 3dconnexion control panel rather than 3dxnx so I can manually bind keypresses?

thank you for your quick response!

Looks like its time for me to upgrade!

Hi Painteater19 -

You can uninstall the 3DxNX add-in. In Programs and Features choose Change|Modify then un-check the 3DxNX add-in.

It is not the 3DxNX.dll , though that causes the issue we see in Windows 7 - it is the Windows UAC that prevents the commands mapped in Custom Functions from being executed.
