Beta driver vs release driver input response

Postby Bradshawpe » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:47 am

So I've been using a SpaceNavigator with the beta drivers because I like the response better. With the officially supported released drivers, the response is much more progressive and there's more dead space when you first start to move it which does make it easier to use BUT I MUCH prefer the linear response and no dead travel of the beta drivers....

The problem I am having is that I just upgraded to a SpaceMouse Pro, which doesn't work with the Beta drivers.

So my question is: Is there a way to edit the response curve and reduce the dead space for the SpaceMouse Pro? (either with the normal drivers or beta drivers?)

I use it solely in SolidWorks

Thanks for any help,
P

You can specifically change the nonlinearity but not that deadband in 3DxWare 6, though changing the nonlinearity has an effect on the deadband.

We will be producing a new beta with SpaceMouse Pro support soon. A couple of changes to the beta include the ability to have the same response curve as in 3DxWare 6, and with individual control over that deadband. It works quite nicely. Best of both worlds.

Where do you change the non-linearity in 3DxWare 6? I only see options for overall speed and speed for individual axes.

I knew you were going to ask that. Let me look it up......

In the registry, create the following new String Value (REG_SZ):

HKCU/Software/3Dconnexion/3DxWare/Nonlinear Factor

Set the value to 1.0 to get the same linear response as the beta. 1.7 to get the same nonlinear response as the default in 3DxWare 6. The larger the number, the more nonlinear the response, and also the larger the deadzone.

You need to restart the driver after making a change. I only look up the value when the driver starts.
