Navigator, Google Earth, Windows 7x64 Issues...

Postby rcmaples » Wed Feb 01, 2012 7:57 am

Hello!

I have a kiosk that we just put together. The system is a Windows 7 64bit, running Google Earth with a Space Navigator with the latest software (checked for updates yesterday). About 30 or 45 minutes after we start the program up, the Earth starts spinning uncontrollably with no one touching the Space Navigator. When you do try to stop the image from spinning, you can as long as you are moving the controller. As soon as you stop moving the controller, the image starts spinning out of control.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Thanks!

Re-Calibrate

Postby Bryan » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:27 am

Dear rcmaples,

You're device may need it's coordinates reset, re-zeroed. You can perform this re-calibration simply by clicking on the Calibrate Button in the 3Dconnexion Control Panel.
(Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, 3Dconnexion Control Panel, Calibrate)

Sincerely,
Bryan

Thanks for the reply Bryan...

Unfortunately, the recalibration isn't working either. I calibrated the device 5 times yesterday. It only holds for about 45 minutes. The longest it's kept it's zero is about 2 hours roughly.

Could the device be bad or is something else at work here?

Thanks!

Hello rc -

When the calibrate function is either not correcting a problem with spinning or drifting or is correcting it only briefly, there is another step you can try.

As a slight variation on the calibration process, you can intentionally mis-calibrate by holding the device cap away from center for several seconds and pressing the Calibrate button while the cap is off-center. Then, let the cap return to its center position and press Calibrate again while not touching the cap. By causing the distance away from center to become larger before re-zeroing, it can sometimes be more easily corrected.

If this does not correct the problem you should contact Technical Support. If your Space Navigator is still under warranty they would be able to arrange for replacement.
