I can't have access to 3Dconnexion Properties

Postby arnolder » Fri Jul 29, 2011 2:42 am

I have a SpaceNavigator, when I found 3DxWare 10 driver beta, I give it a try.
I uninstall previous driver v3-10-1_r852 from my system Windows XP SP3 32bits,
install this new 3DxWare32SPP_v10-0-10_r1127. After restarting my system, when I
try to open 3Dconnexion Properties, it shows a dialogue saying

"3dxService needs to be (re)started. All 3D mouse aware applications need to be stopped when restarting 3DxService."

then it closes Properties window. So I open trainer application, an error message pops up saying

"Error: Could not locate an installed 3Dconnexion device. Please install your motion controller driver software before proceeding."

and no response in trainer window when I operate SpaceNavigator. Even I unplug and replug SpaceNavigator,
I still have this error.
But I can operate in Viewer and Collage application.

Could you help me? :(

You might have a DLL conflict that didn't get straightened out by the installer.

Uninstall all your 3DxWare versions.

Then go into the System directory and delete spwini.dll and siappdll.dll.

Then reinstall and test.

Thank you for reply so quickly. :o
I follow your instruction, first uninstall previous driver. I check in the folder SYSTEM32, but there's no spwini.dll and siappdll.dll in it, neither did in folder SYSTEM.
Then I install 3DxWare v.10 beta driver. I find spwini.dll and siappdll.dll have been created in folder SYSTEM32:

spwini.dll
file version v11.0.11.0
created on 05/02/2011

siappdll.dll
file version v4.0.11.0
created on 05/02/2011

But I still have the same problem opening 3Dconnexion Properites window.
Would you give me some other advice?

Hello!

I'd like to bring this thread up because I am experiencing exactly the same problem on Win XP SP3 .NET4 using 3DxWare 10 Beta 11.

The driver component seems to work -- if I create a profile on another machine and copy it into the profile folder manually, the controller works as intended BUT if I try to open the configuration tool I get:

"3dxService needs to be (re)started. All 3D mouse aware applications need to be stopped when restarting 3DxService."

Uninstalling, deleting DLLs, reinstalling (driver and various .NET packages and fixes) does not change anything.
I hope there is something that can be done to remedy this, the SpaceNavigator has so much new potential with the beta driver -- I am using it with my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and it is really great.

Thanks in advance

UMDJesse,

Can you give me a few details about your environment, so we can try to reproduce what you are seeing?

I still have this problem, too. Running on WinXP Pro SP3 x86 though. Beta 12. Please tell me what to provide to help you with debugging; I am gladly willing to assist in tracking this bug down.

Create a log file (3DxService.log) and attach it. There may also be a 3DxConfig.log file in the same directory.

If you can't run 3DxConfig, you will have to edit your %appdata%\3Dconnexion\3dxware\Cfg\Global_User.xml file to turn logging on. Add these lines:
Code: Select all
<Settings>
   <LogLevel>FFFFFFFF</LogLevel>
</Settings>

short:
win7 64 bit
v10Beta15 (64)
each time I try to open 3DxConfig.exe a popUp opens telling me that an exception occured and that I could view the application log data for mor details
logs:
3DxConfig.log is completely empty
and the service log shows nothing concerning my atempt to open properties

I reinstalled the driver pack severel times but it didn't helped me
I also tried to

though I couldn't find that file and I applied these lines to C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxWinCore64\Cfg\Global_def.xml
but it also didn't helped

That's not your user directory. %appdata% points to your user directory.
Just type in: %appdata%/3dconnexion/3dxware/cfg into Windows Explorer's address line.

The file should look like this:
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Global xmlns="" Default="false">
   <Settings>
      <LogLevel>FFFFFFFF</LogLevel>
   </Settings>
</Global>

The only file I found in this directory was "LCDCfg.xml"
So I created this "Global_User.xml" file but It didn't helped me

You do have to create the file if it isn't there.
Did the file you created look like the listing I posted or the listing you posted? The file does need all the content I listed.
