Space Pilot - On screen display.

Postby JWilliams » Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:13 pm

Hi,
I have recently started using the Space Pilot 3d mouse and see great potential. I've looked for quite some time and have not been able to find this feature so I apologize if this topic has already been done.

What I'm looking for is a small on screen display application that will simply show me what is currently on my Space Pilot display. I'm finding for this to truly be useful to me I need to know to current configuration without looking down at the device or guessing which mode it is in. I don't need or want anything more powerful than a box that will show me the function of the 6 buttons.

I'm currently running Windows XP 64-bit SP2 with Solidworks 2011. I plan on updating to Solidworks 2012 shortly and Windows 7 64 bit soon.

Thanks, Joe Williams...

"A Monitor Display"

Postby Bryan » Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:59 pm

Dear Mr. JWilliams.

A monitor display is not a feature we have. That is why we have included physical displays on the SpacePilot and on the SpacePilot PRO.

Sincerely,
Bryan

On screen display

Postby Barbara » Thu Oct 27, 2011 10:13 am

Hello Joe -

Your suggestion is a good one though. It is something that has been discussed as a way to avoid the distracting need to look away from the screen while you are working. We welcome this type of input from people who use our devices and would like to see them become even more useful.

When each new software and hardware release is being planned, the development team goes over the enhancement requests and suggestions for new features. I'll bring this one to the attention of our Product Manager.

I've noticed the newer SpaceMouse Pro appears to have this on-screen display functionality that I am looking for. Is this feature available for the Space Pilot also? I would like to order the newer Space Pilot as I spend the majority of my days in CAD yet It would be nice to show management what it is I'm asking for with this model. I've downloaded the newer version (v3.15.4) yet I do not see this as an option. Any advice?

Hello Joe -

No, only the SpaceMouse Pro has an on-screen display.

The SpaceMouse Pro is designed for a long press of keys 1 through 4 to display the mapped buttons on your computer screen.

To see the commands mapped to your Space Pilot buttons in SolidWorks , press the Panel button on the Space Pilot then choose Customize Buttons from the pop-up menu.

If you're interested in using the new Virtual NumPad for number entry , that is now available to be mapped to a button on any of our current devices.
