Max 9 driver

Postby RafaRed » Sat Sep 03, 2011 6:55 am

Installed driver ok. Mouse doesn't function. I presume that the driver isn't running? How can I check, or do I need to do something else?

Product: Space Explorer USB.

Checking on Starting Driver

Postby Bryan » Sat Sep 03, 2011 5:04 pm

Dear RafaRed,

Make sure you have 'Start 3DxWare' listed in the Windows Startup Folder
(Start, All Programs, Startup)
This is what starts our drivers each time you boot up.

You may also attempt to start the drivers manually.
(Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, Drivers, Start Driver)
Normally if your drivers are already running, you will get a small pop-up dialog box saying so.

You may test for operation of your device in the Jet Demo.
(Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, Demos, Jet Demo)

What is your operating system?
Did you download drivers from our website?
Our current release version for Windows is 3.14.1
(www.3dconnexion,com, Service Menu, Driver Download page, Search)
Did you select a 'complete' install?
Did you select to have the drivers start automatically?

Sincerely,
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Many thanks for your input.

OS: Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium.

I have fresh install from disk supplied with 3D mouse.
I let it start automatically from inserting disk.
When it asked to check for latest version I agree and downloaded 3.14.1
Complete install chosen
Also driver startup at windows bootup
Start 3DxWare is in start up folder

I have two versions of 3ds max installed.
Mouse functions correctly in max 2011 32-bit
Mouse doesn't function at all in max 9 32-bit

Can I please ask what I need to do to get it to function in max 9?

Many thanks.

Dear RafaRed,

In the 3Dconnexion Control Panel,
(Start, All programs, 3Dconnexion, ...)
In the About Item under the Help Menu.
What release version do you read there?

Sincerely,
Bryan

Dear RafaRed,

When you have 3dxsmax 9 open, open the 3dconnexion control panel. Is 3dsmax indicated or 'all programs'?
if 3dxmax is indicated, are all your motions enabled under the Advanced Tab?

Sincerely,
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

When control panel opened in max 9 the drop down menu says 'any application' and no others listed.

Kind regards,

Paul.

3ds Max 9

Postby Bryan » Tue Sep 06, 2011 10:10 am

Dear RafaRed,

Try a repair.

Close all your applications
Select the '3DxSoftware' line in Windows' "Add and Remove Programs" in the Window's "Control Panel".
Select 'Change'
Select 'Repair.'
Click on the 'Next' Button.
Let the Repair Run and test in 3ds Max 9.

Sincerely,
Bryan g.

Hi Bryan,

Sorry to report, repair has been run and hasn't done the trick. I might try the max 9 driver included on disk.

Kind regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

I recommend to use the latest driver from the web. 3dsmax 9 is still supported with this version.

If the installation was successful you should have the following files:

    C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2011\Scripts\Startup\3DxStudio.ms
    C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2011\stdplugs\3dxstd.dlu

Additionally you should see an entry 3DxStudio in the "Utilities" list in your 3dsmax (click the "Utilities" tab and then the button "More...").

Please let me know if you can see these files. Thx.

Hi Uta,

Both files have installed. I have checked Utils in max 9 and 3DxStudio is listed, and column header 3DxStudio 5.3.0.6925, with Customize Buttons available.

Just to clarify, mouse works fine in max 2011.

Many thanks,

Paul.

Oh, yes - sorry I copied the path from my machine and I only have max 2011 installed. Of course the files have to be in the correspondant folders of max 9. Are they?

Do you see the 3D Mouse News window when you start max 9?

Make sure you copied the correct add-in files to the 3dsmax 9 folder.
On a 32-bit PC:

Copy the "3dxstd.dlu" file from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio32-->win32 -->3DsMax9 to the "stdplugs" sub-directory of 3Ds Max.

Copy "3DxStudio.ms" from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio32 to the scriptsstartup sub-directory of 3Ds Max.

On a 64-bit PC running 32bit Studio Max:

Copy the "3dxstd.dlu" file from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio64-->Win32 -->3DsMax9 to the "stdplugs" sub-directory of 3Ds Max.

Copy "3DxStudio.ms" from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio64 to the scriptsstartup sub-directory of 3Ds Max.

============================================
[Note : 3dsMax versions 9 through 2012 all use 3dxstd.dlu but the files are different and have a different file size
based on the year| version]

3DsMax9 : 2.06 MB
3DsMax2008 : 2.06 MB
3DsMax2009 : 2.07 MB
3DsMax2010 : 2.18 MB
3DsMax2011 : 2.18 MB
3DsMax2012 : 2.07 MB

Hi,

Just to make sure the above intructions are correct for my set up.

I'm running a 64-bit pc, with 3dsMax 9 32 -bit.

On launching max 9, I do get the news page and 3DxStudio is listed in utilities.

regards,

Paul.

I had to make a slight change in the instructions,
I had given you the defaults due to not knowing your OS, 3DSMax versions.

Copy the "3dxstd.dlu" file from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio64-->Win32 -->3DsMax9 to the "stdplugs" sub-directory of 3Ds Max.
