hi all, sorry for the dumb question but how do i create a profile? i'm on win7 64bit and cant find out where the profile thingy is. also i read it can be a 2d mouse, that mean i can use it as a standard pc mouse? i'm disabled and NEED my navigator to function as a mouse, just like that old user made driver that RCB one.

You create a new profile by launching the 3Dconnexion Properties GUI. This can normally be done from the Menu button on your device or from the systray icon, or 3DxHome (on your desktop).

There is a documentation link in 3DxHome. Let us know if the documentation needs more information.

The Manage Profiles... button in the 3Dconnexion Properties GUI will allow you to make new profiles.

Didn't you post something about this in one of the forums before the beta came out? I've kept you in mind.

This is a popular request. We have something we are playing with. The more interest we get, the more time we will put into it.

The "Default" profile (Desktop.xml) is special. It can be modified to be used regardless of which application has focus. You can then assign Mouse X/Y/Wheel and Left/Middle/Right Mouse buttons to your device by editing that profile and use your 3D mouse exactly as a 2D mouse. You could also assign all sorts of Desktop-type things in there, like Alt-Tab...

There is a specific function that you can assign to a button, named "Toggle 2D Mouse Mode" and is usually in the "Other" category. If you assign that to a device button you can toggle in and out of this mode where only the Default profile is used.

The idea is that you could enter this mode, mouse over to an application, hit the left mouse button assigned key, then do your 3D things, then toggle back to 2D mouse mode and go over to another application...

There is a possibly not so obvious issue. You have to have that Toggle 2D Mouse Mode function assigned in every application you enter or you won't be able to get back to 2D Mouse Mode <G> I always assign it to the same button so I can just toggle with that button.

The other issue is that you may have to bounce 3DxService after you make your initial changes to the Default profile.

There is no guarantee as to how well this works, nor what we will do with it in the future. It all (as everything) depends on how much interest we get.

thanks so much for responding! yes i have been fighting for the 2d mouse feature for some time. i will try it out tonight and see what it can & can't do nd give you and the comunity feedback.

alittle off topic, look i'm disabled. i was able to use a standerd mouse a few years ago. then my disability got critical and left me a quadropledgic. i discovered the navigator and was able to use it via my mouth. then a user made that RCB emulater and i was able to use my pc again. your product has GREAT potential and it made my life alot easier. anyways my opinon is this, why not put 1 programmer dedicated to the 2d mouse application. i don't think it's a question of the more the feedback the more you'll put into developing this subject, i think it's more just do it and perfect it cause if it helped me it can surely help others. and with the ability to assign each pan, tilt, twist etc a function, thats a gift to the disabled community.

Try this:
3DxHome (on your desktop)
Properties
Select Application Profiles->Show All Profiles...
Default Profile
Buttons tab
Step 1: Select a button that you can edit
Step 2: Other->Toggle 2D Mouse Mode
That should assign Toggle 2D Mouse Mode to the button you selected
Apply - to save the changes to the Default Profile

At this point you probably need to restart 3DxService (use the systray icon to stop it) and choose some application that uses the Default Profile (e.g., firefox or chrome since we don't deliver profiles for them).

Press the button assigned to Toggle 2D Mouse Mode. This makes changes to your Default Profile. It makes it the only one that will be used.

Now you may very well have to restart 3DxService one more time. Your device will now be captured in 2d Mouse Mode.

ok i got 2 problems,... 1. the left to right is buggy, it acts in reverse and will not switch even if i set it in reverse mode . #2 i can't set the down axis to just left mouse function. it requires me to set left/right, up/down or mouse wheel before it unlocks the left mouse function. by having " example mouse wheel with left mouse button " its impossible to click and drag. any option will not let you click and drag do to it won't let you choose just the left mouse button option

How are you controlling the cap? Pushing on it with a stick? Can you pull up on the cap?

I am wondering if you can do drag and drop by pressing down on the cap to activate the left mouse button (which will stick down). Then you can move the cap to control the cursor. Finally you need to release the left mouse button by pulling up on the cap.

All this requires software development, but before I started anything like that (I'd have to do it on my own time), I wanted to know what you would be able to do.

the mouse is mounted at a 180 degree up to my mouth /chin area. i can push the cap down but can't pull up. it works fine but it won't unlock the mouse buttons unless you choose a mouse motion. if you can bypass that first step it will work great, but at the moment when i push the cap it left mouse clicks & moves. i just need the motion option skipped.

ps. if needed i can send pictures

And what operations do you want to do?

Move the cursor around, then press and release the left mouse button to select something?

Also to select something and drag and drop it somewhere?

Can you press buttons to determine which mode you are in?

How about pushing softly or with a lot of pressure to determine which mode you would be in (move and select vs drag and drop)?

no no no you don't understand ... ok let me try and explain better. if you make a new profile first you choose which function ,tilt left & right , tilt foward & back , cap down & up , etc. then step 2 i set as 2d mode. then it asks mouse left / right , mouse up/ down , mouse wheel ... it makes me coose 1 of thoughs options before i can choose left mouse button. i just want left mouse button ... not mouse left / right with left mouse button or mouse up / down with left mouse button ... it makes me put 2 functions as my cap down function

step by step

choose function of mouse (cap up/down)

set as 2d mouse (that unlocks mouse options)

set as left mouse button (option is grey, unable to select)

must set mouse movement first to unlock mouse buttons options (but i want this skipped, i just want left mouse button)

OK. I'm lost.

You only want to press the left mouse button? You don't want to move the cursor? You can do that with a device button. You don't need the cap to do that.

I think we need to start over with, exactly what do you want to accomplish with your SpaceNavigator?
