so the big moment has come . . . I'm sure we all will be very pleased. From the first impression it looks perfect, with available modifier checkboxes, joystick, keyboard. And a very elegant GUI, considering the vast possibilities that lie under the hood.

It seems that when you create or modify a profile for an application, the application has to restarted until the new profile takes effect. For Explorer:2D mouse/mouse wheel/reverse checkbox, I even had to reboot. Closing the explorer window was not enough, the mouse wheel direction was not reversed. This might be one of the 'traps' when first using this new software. If something doesn't work immediately, close and reopen the application, or, like with Explorer, reboot.

As my Cadman is not listed am I right to assume that this will not work for me?

If so thats a right pain, the Cadman performs fine for my CAD work so I see little need to rush out and change it.

Yes, this is a bug in the beta. When the driver already has a profile it is happy with, it is hard to shake that loose to pick up the new one. You have to stop the application for it to get released. In the case of Explorer, well, it isn't easy to restart Explorer.

Normally, this is a problem only when creating a completely new profile. If you are just modifying a profile you have already created, those changes should get recognized as soon as you press the Apply button in the 3Dconnexion Properties panel.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Constraining to application window

Postby jane » Thu Mar 31, 2011 7:10 am

Hi
It's great to have the opportunity to use the devices in previously unsupported applications.
I'm having teething problems in a CAD application. I've mapped the spaceexplorer left/right cap rotation to the application's left/right + left mouse button (2D Mouse) in the application profile. this is working fine to provide left & right rotation of the 3D view using the cap. But, if the cursor moves out of the application window or over application menus (due to slight over rotation) when controlled with the spaceexplorer, the controller behaves differently to the 2D mouse command it is emulating. For example, if the cursor moves over an application toolbar, it will begin to drag the toolbar as though the active CAD command had been escaped and left mouse button had been released and reactivated. Likewise if the cursor rolls out of the application window, the CAD application becomes inactive, desktop items are highlighted and become active; movement of the standard mouse with no left click then drags active desktop icons etc.
Any thoughts?

Macros

Postby chaseacej » Thu Mar 31, 2011 7:28 am

I am trying to create a macro with the tab key in it and it keeps tabbing down to delete last. This had worked in the versions before 10 beta.

Thanks.

Yes, this is Windows getting in the way inside the GUI. The only way we have around it is edting your profile with notepad. Tell me what the macro is, and I'll post here what you need to do.

What application?
We are working on a solution that is smart enough to know the boundaries of the window, so the mouse cursor won't leave the window. I suspect a lot of applications work this way.

The macro is to fill in a username, hit tab, then the password. Just use "username" and "password" for the text to type in.

Pro/Engineer WF4

Postby chaseacej » Thu Mar 31, 2011 8:12 am

I am using this in WF4 with my SpacePilot Pro and there seems to be quite a delay when pressing a button and the actual command carrying itself out. Along the lines of a few seconds.

In the older software when changing the sensitivity/speed the display of the SpacePilot Pro had the little popup window to show what the current speed was. Is this something that is gone now? That was a really nice feature to tell where your speed was.

Sorry, there would be no way for you to edit that once I create the macro.
We'll work on this for the next beta. It doesn't look too hard.

We've just checked with WF5 and all seems well. Can you give a more detailed procedure (which button being pressed and what function is assigned to it)?

Gone only temporarily. We'll restore the feature in a subsequent beta. We're tracking this internally as issue #5719.

I moved all of the Pro/E issues I am having to a new thread as not to clog up this one.
