I ugraded to the latest 3DConnexion software & drivers this afternoon.
I did this with my usual bunch of applications AutoCAD 2008, 3DS Max 2008 closed. I didn't remove the previous 3DConnexion software and drivers before installing the new ones - I trusted in this case the upgrade/removal process would go all OK.
However, I've now got an issue whereby when I try and import an AutoCAD file into Max, Max crashes, asking me if I want to try and save the scene and also sending a crash report to Autodesk. I tried this several times, with different drawings - some I've known worked even yesterday, together with some freshly-created examples. All had the same problem.
The only thing that had changed between time was the upgrade of the 3DConnexion driver. I hunted the plugin down and renamed it, preventing it from being loaded when Max starts. In this state, Max is able to import all of my previously-imported DWGs, including the one that started this all off. Of course, I don't have the 3Dx device working.
If I re-enable the 3DX plugin, then the DWG crash-on-import behaviour starts again.
We're using this with a SpaceNavigator for Notebooks. AutoCAD 2008 exe file version is 23.1.219.0. 3DS Max 2008 exe file version is 10.0.0.86.
Could someone from 3DConnexion please comment? |

Due to changes in the addin i would suggest performing a
Clean Install . This is different than uninstalling/re-installing the 3dconnexion software, since a standard re-install retains 3Dx registry entries and folders.

Hi Fred,
Thanks for the reply. I followed the instructions to the letter. Unfortunately, I still have the same issue as described above. Again, if I remove the 3Dx plugin from the 3DS Max 2008 plugins folder, all is well.
Do you have any further ideas? I'm guessing it should be trying an older driver again or reinstalling 3DS Max...? |

Hi Smiffa,
Please try if the situation changes when you disable "Auto" in the menu "Rotation Center". Please change below "Auto" to "Hide". Let us know your findings. _________________ Uta Ludwig

Hi Uta,
I tried first disabling the Auto option in the Rotation Center menu. This now enables me to import DWG without Max crashing. However, if I then press the right-hand shortcut button on the 3Dx device, Max still crashes out.
The same behavior also happens when I change the Auto option to Hide as well as disabling the other Auto option.
Cheers,

Hi,
Is there anything else that can be done? The suggestions so far haven't cleared the problem.

Hi Smiffa,
I can't reproduce the problem here. Can you provide an example file? I'll send you an email address per PM. _________________ Uta Ludwig
