Inventor 2010 crashes while moving
Hi!
i am having trouble with the latest inventor. i have a Space explorer, with the latest drivers and while i am working on Inventor 2010 the program evventually crashes. usually every 2/3 hours of work. i know that it is the spacemouse because if i do not use it the program doesnt crash.
i tried a clean install but that didnt fix the issue.
can it be somehow resolved? its quite annoying.
thank you
Alcom

Inventor 2010 crashes while moving
Dear Alcom,
Could you supply us with a bit more trouble shooting information.
What release version do find listed in About under the Help Menu in the 3Dconnexion Control Panel?
What specific operating system are you using?
What are your major machine spec's?
Are there any error messages?
Does it crash just Inventor 2010 or does it lock up the entire machine?
Is there any specific action that may also be associated at the time of lock up?
Sincerely,
Bryan

hi bryan!
acording to the german inventor forum there are many having this trouble.
here are the infos you requested:
space explorer
Drivers: 3.7.12 release (driver version: 6.7.11, firmware version 4.04)
Inventor version: 2010 suite
Operating system: XP professional SP3 (accroding to the forums it happens on Vista too)
Machine: Intel core 2 duo E6850 @3 ghz

GPU: Nvidia 8600 512 mb ram
The only error message is the one in the event manager:

It crashes only Inventor. uninstalling the drivers and work without spacemouse fixes the issue. some are testing the new GUI since tehy think that this is what is causing it in combo with the spacemouse.
hope this helps.. for any question just ask..

hi! thanks for your answer.
idisabled the add in and will let you know as soon as it crashes. one thing is for sure (based on the inventor forums tests we made all toghether)
teh crashes happen ONLY if 2 conditions are met:
1) spacemouse installed
2) new ribbon GUI
it does not happen with the old one. and it happens while we are rotating the model. mostly when spacemouse and mouse are moving. it is not tied to a specific button or comand. only moving in 3d causes the crash.
hope this helps..
thnx

Autodesk site reports that a driver update is available
Following Autodesk site reports that a driver update is available that addresses this problem but I haven't found it yet. Sure could use the fix, have returned to classic menu because of the crashes.
Thanks,
Dave

Issue
Inventor may crash when you use a 3DConnexion controller in conjunction with the Ribbon User Interface. After you’ve actively used the 3D mouse for a period of 10 to 20 minutes, moving the 2D mouse over the Ribbon can cause Inventor to terminate.
This issue most frequently occurs on Windows® XP (32 and 64 bit) systems with the Ribbon User Interface. Occasionally it may occur on Windows® Vista or when using the Classic UI. It may take longer than 20 minutes to encounter this issue depending on your use of the 3D mouse.
Solution
This issue is caused by a leaked timer resource in the 3DConnexion driver. Once the timers are exhausted, the Microsoft WPF implementation will throw an exception that terminates the Inventor Application.
You can fix this issue by updating your version of the 3DConnexion driver from:
http://3dconnexion.com/support/downloads.php
3DxSoftware v. 3.7.18 contains a fix for this issue.
Though this issue most frequently occurs on Windows XP, it is highly recommended that you still update to version 3.7.18 if you are using Windows Vista.
Similarly, you should update to version 3.7.18 if you are using earlier versions of Inventor software.
Thanks,
Dave
