Linux, Blender, Space Navigator

Post by ootoo »

Hi all,

I uploaded a patch to the blender repository for the blender 2.44 sources which allows the use of the Space Navigator for Blender without the use of the proprietary drivers from 3D connexion. Instead the generic USB evdev driver from the Xorg server is used. Detailed instructions and link to the patch can be found in the blender forum under:

http://www.blender.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11749

Please recognize that a dedicated project has been started for blender to support 6 DOF devices, so this patch is more or less an intermediate solution I made for myself.

Have fun space navigating

Regards

Otto

That's great Otto, I'll certainly take a look at your patch. The blender community has been very nice and we are happy to work together. Your contributions are certainly welcome.

As mentioned on the bf-committers mailing list, there's an official project started on the blender projects site. There's even a dedicated development branch for NDOF devices support:

https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-blen ... ches/ndof/

We should all work from that baseline.
