Unreal Engine 4

Post by santokki »

Please make a driver for Unreal Engine 4, the AAA game development engine that has just been opened to the masses.

Their code is totally open so 3DConnexion should be able to write a driver for it no problem. Thanks!!

Adding 3D device support to an application is determined by the application developer rather than by 3Dconnexion. We have an SDK [Development Kit] which any software developer can download at no cost and which allows the integration of 3D device support in proprietary software.

We advise our customers to contact the Customer Service of applications that are lacking support and request it be added in future versions of their software. The decision to include 3D support in their development schedule is often influenced by the level of customer interest.

We will also contact them as well.

Hi, it looks like Unreal is not going to code any 3DConnexion plugin anytime in the near future. But since the full source code is available for Unreal, they suggested having a third party programmer code the plugin.

The official answer given by Unreal:

"The question has been closed 2 days ago by Tim Hobson for the following reason: Answer was provided. Users discussing paying user to make plugin instead. 3DConnexion does offer their SDK so that anyone from the community can also develop the plug-in. With full source of UE4 this is certainly possible. Once the plug-in is created it can be submitted as a Pull-Request to be included with the engine."

Does 3DConnexion have programmer available who could code the plugin for Unreal Engine 4? There are interested parties who would donate money toward such an effort.

Thank you!

I cannot believe that 3Dconnexion is trying to pass the buck for creating this driver onto the software manufacturer or the community. We bought this product from your company, we deserve your continued support as the industry evolves. So when the next big thing in 3D comes along, and it is completely open source, you guys should hire a programmer and get us a driver or plugin so we can continue using YOUR product. Otherwise, what is the point of having it?

Unreal engine 4 is the future of Gaming/VR/Visualization. You guys are going to miss a lot of product sales when people search Google to see if your product is supported and all they find is this forum where the device manufacturer refuses to help and refers back to the open source software developer for a solution. Sad

Hire a Programmer, make a plugin, put it here, sell more product. Simple

Seems like someone recently made a plugin for Direct Input controllers according to this link: https://forums.oculus.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=16835
3DConnexion devices support Direct Input via the KMJ transport.
