Valve Games (Source, Half Life 1+2, Teamfortress classic+2)

There's a whole family of games which use the same engine, and hence joystick profile and in-game configuration file settings.

Works great in Teamfortress 2! (no static friction effect) This most likely works in Teamfortress Classic, Countersrike, Day of Defeat, Left for Dead 1+2, and Portal 1+2.

I plan to test/verify these other games soon, but I'm confident they'll work fine.

I have a complete list of the games here, along with game configuration tools

As I verify more games I'll update this post.

I've identified and fixed what I once thought was 'static friction'.

Valve not only added non-linear options, but made the default setting to quadratic for episodes 1 and 2. Set joy_response_look and joy_response_move to 0 to set it to linear.

Although I haven't tried all of Valve games (only about 1/2 for now, need to save up for the rest) I'm confident that every single one has good 3dmouse support. It's a blast to play these games now, its so smooth!

I've updated the Half life 2 binder JavaScript program at the bottom of http://sites.google.com/site/quakeconfig/valve-engine-games , so it now sets the response to linear. I've also reduced the cl_ move speeds closer to the actual game speed caps, now that the response is linear. Let me know if any of the keyboard keys don't work, I haven't thoroughly checked them all.

I've got demos up for the following games, demonstrating variable translation control using the Source engine (Half Life 2)

Half Life 2
Half Life 2 Lost Coast
Half Life 2 Episode 1
Half Life 2 Episode 2
Half Life 2 TeamFortress2

as attachements at the bottom of http://sites.google.com/site/quakeconfig/valve-engine-games

So if you have one of these games installed (TeamFortress 2 is free now) you can see it in action. Can watch the demos even at 1920x1200x32. The Source engine is nice to play with, with all the physics interactivity and dynamic lighting, and very fluid motion. Unfortunately it's missing variable vertical control for swimming (so you don't have to look up and down to swim up and down,) but that would an easy feature to add.

They could be converted to movie files to be displayed on webpages, but probably just short sections at lower resolutions. If possible maintaining 60fps to properly convey the smooth motion. I found this webpage illustrating the conversion process http://www.overclock.net/faqs/24487-how-record-movies-hl2-cs-s.html maybe with good compression the file size could to cut down to a reasonable size.
