Default profiles overriding everything

Postby Benville » Sat Apr 21, 2012 2:06 am

When I saw 3Dx had finally released software to let me use my massively expensive piece of equipment in other programs I was overjoyed. The joy didn't last long.

Either I'm doing something catastrophically wrong, or the software still needs work. I'd prefer it to be the former, since then someone can just tell me how to easily fix it.

No matter what profile I am in, no matter what binds I have set, the default Windows Explorer profile still kicks in.

Example, I'm presently trying to make a profile for Eve Online. I can assign Button 1 to an in-game function via a macro in my Eve profile, and sure enough when I press Button 1 it'll do it's job. It will also tab out the game client and open my Email...

Same with Search and all the rest.

Whatever function I create for my Eve profile works, but then the Explorer profile still kicks in and does what it thinks it's meant to do over the top.

What gives? I even tried deleting the Explorer and Default profiles out of desparation (well, moving them away) and it STILL overrides my custom profiles with default options.

You need to create a profile for the Eve Online executable. The driver uses that profile when it sees a window from that executable. I'm assuming you created that using 3DxConfig and that profile is stored in your %appdata% area.

Is it a native Windows app, or does it run in a browser?

Possible problems are:
- the driver can't identify that executable due to permissions issues.
- a window from that app is never actually in focus.
- the application is actually running in some other container, like IE.
- you created the profile, but then edited the Windows Explorer profile.

The 3DxService log file will help to diagnose what is going wrong. Turn on loggin in 3DxConfig->Tools, the look at the file under %appdata%/3dconnexion/3dxware.

All that being said, the driver is still in beta and sometimes it has problems switching profiles.

For 3DxWare 6 (6.16.0), there is no easy way to do this. You have to copy an existing scg file, and change the executable name and possibly a lot of other undocumented details you have no clue about. It's much easier to do this with the 3DxWare 10 beta driver. Consider giving the beta driver a try.
