Experimental ZBrush support (Windows)

Postby ngomes » Fri May 06, 2011 10:01 am

With the release of Beta 10 of 3DxWare 10 for Windows, 3Dconnexion has made available an experimental profile for Pixologic's ZBrush 4. The software is available for download on the 3DxLabs web page.

As always, we appreciate any comments, suggestions or other feedback you may have on this subject.

The implementation makes use of "right-click navigation" in ZBrush.

Please use this topic to discuss ZBrush support in 3DxWare 10 for Windows

Cool, but not usable with wacom tablet/mouse. As soon as the mouse/stylus hits the tablet surface (not even clicking), the movements are locked on the real mouse and 2d mouse emulation is not functional.

And can the mouse rotate/pan/zoom the model using the right-click navigation feature?

I'm dying to try this. We're in crunch right now for milestone so I dare not quite yet. It's killing me. :)

I don't understand the question, are you asking if the tablet is working in zbrush ?
Yes both mouse and stylus work

If the spacepilot pro is working ?
yes IF no mouse or stylus is on the tablet.

We can't work with mouse/stylus AND Sp Pro as the slightest shake on the stylus actually moves the cursor, and the wacom mouse seems to refresh cursor pos all the time canceling the 2d mouse emulation macros.

I forgot to mention: right click navigation si activated as a draster's zswitcher requirement (deactivate here for test purpose ofc)

A gif showing the issue: when the red cursor disappear is when the stylus is on the tablet surface (not clicking !): rotation macro is overrided by tablet x-y movement.

Adding two-hand support is outside of what we can achieve as it seems that our only option is to use mouse emulation.

BeatKitano, from your video, it seems that using the 3D mouse causes the movement to "stagger" (the model moves back/forth in small steps over what should be the longer movement). Do you always see this? What happens if you do not touch your table and mouse but only the 3D mouse?

What would those be? Movement around "z", for instance?

If the driver can't allow both mouse interaction at the same time then the driver is useless in TONS of situations. I had hope and so did all people looking ofr a 3d mouse +zbrush (and any 3d app not natively supported in fact as the problem is there too)...

I don't see the use for 3d mouse when you have to stop what you're doing to navigate, what's the added value opposed to a keyboard now ?

Our reasoning here is that the 3D mouse is always useless in ZBrush unless it emulates a normal mouse. We also believe it may be quite good in some situations if this emulation is done properly.

Having said that, we know that a great experience can be only be achieved with two-hand support but that can't be achieved in ZBrush.

The current profile for ZBrush is experimental. We released it to see the reaction of our customers', users of ZBrush.

We'd still like to know what suggestions you all have to improve the solution but, as stated above, two-hand support isn't in the menu, much to our regret.

OK, thanks for your reply, I won't have to watch those board much now. "Locking" the real mouse cursor while affecting viewport with 2d mouse emulation was my only request as everyting else is possible with xpadder/glovepie and moujoykey driver.
