SpaceMousePro & CAD Mouse product quality

Post by velaskez »

For years I have been using 3dconnexion products. In 2012 I have acquired SpaceMousePro and happily used it since. For the past couple of months the product have been sitting in a drawer, because I was not doing as much CAD work as I used to do. Recently pulled it out. All of the rubberized surfaces on the product became sticky and the rubber coating is coming off.
Is this manufacturing issue or just planned obsolescence. And it's not the first time I had this. My SpaceMouseXT (yes, the serial port one) had the same issue. I'll give you an advice - free of charge. Just stop rubber coating the damn thing!

CAD Mouse - generally great. If only the steel coating hasn't worn off - chemically reacted with sweat which produced nice rust lines. And the PTFE feet have completely worn on the brilliant CAD Mouse Pad. In 2 years  So do they provide replacements or should I buy a new mouse?!
I will supply pictures of the mouse as soon as I get home.

So could someone advise me what could I do now?

Hello velaskez,

please contact our Technical Support Team for a replacement of your CadMouse due to corrosion.

My first CADMouse looked the same after 3 months,
until it was replaced when losing their LMB click.
The second does not look as bad as I don't use it but you can clearly see
that the clearcoat already starts to come off.

As long as the Aluminium is only clearcoated instead of anodized,
that would happen with the next replacement again.

We have improved the quality. All CadMouse devices from 2017 should not show corrosion anymore.
