NX10 Documentation and 3DConnexion software

Post by gajdos »

I have installed the SIemens NX10 documentation server locally, this server working on 8181 port. 3DxNLServer.exe running on port 8181. This is problem and NX10 documentation not work.
Is possible change used port 8181 for 3DConnexion drivers?
Thanks.

Hi gajdos,

the 3DxNLServer.exe has nothing to do with NX 10.

What kind of problems do you have with NX 10? Can you please explain?

Hi gajdos,

if you are not using Onshape you can uninstall the 3DxNLServer. To do this you start the installer again and do a customized installation where you unselect the tickbox for the 3DxNLServer.

Hi gajdos,

There should be no conflict with the NX help server.

What version of 3DxWare 10 are you using?

The "Navigation Library Server" is a 3DxWare 10 component enables 3D mouse support in JavaScript (web) programs.

There should be no conflict with local server running on the same port (8181).

What is the exact issue that you are seeing? Did the NX help server refused to start?

This is very odd. How do you access the help documentation? On a "http://localhost..." address? What is it exactly?

If you can, please try the following test: make sure you have the "Navigation Library Server" component installed, stop the driver (Start menu > All Programs > 3Dconnexion > Driver > Stop Driver) and then start the NX "Documentation Server". Check if all seems well with the NX help server. If it is, then "Start Driver" and again check if all seems well with the NX documentation service.

After press F1 in NX10, help start with browser with adress http://localhost:8181............
Ok, this is situation.
After manually stop 3DConnexion driver and start Siemens documentation server - help work.
After manually start 3DConnexion driver - see windows error (3DxNIServer stop responding)
After reboot workstation - help is blocked.

Hi gajdosm,

It appears that the NX help server is binding to the all the system's IP address (it uses the IP wildcard 0.0.0.0), seemingly with an exclusive option setting (SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE).

This means the server is available on all system interfaces, not just on localhost. Depending on the firewall settings, other users may be able to access over the LAN. Is that how you expect it to work?

If you can change the configuration of the NX help server to bind only to localhost (127.0.0.1) or some other specific IP address, then there should be no conflict with the NL Server.

Network installation is possible for all users (server instalation), but for me is possible only local instalation.
Problem is in port 8181 - is used with 3DxNIServer.I do not know how to change this configuration in NX Help server (change port or adress).

If you are using a local installation (access using localhost on port 8181), then you do not need to bind the server to all IP addresses with an exclusivity setting on port 8181. We recommend that you take this up with Siemens PLM customer support and ask for the necessary information on how to make this change to the configuration of the documentation server.

One option that you may want consider is selecting a different port numberfor the NX Documentation Server. A different port number can be set during installation.

For the benefit of others, please share the details in this topic if you can.

The NL Server does not bind exclusively to all IP addresses and should work fine provided other servers using the same port number do not make an exclusive grab. Changing the port used by the NL Server will render it useless (as web programs won't be able to connect without being modified) and might as well not install it as suggested by UtaSH above.
