Windows 2000 Beta available!

Postby znissan » Sun Jan 14, 2007 12:20 pm

Hello everyone:

You can download a Windows 2000 beta from the 3Dconnexion website by visiting http://www.3dconnexion.com/support/4a1.php . After selecting your product supported on Windows 2000 with the latest software (SpaceNavigator PE, SpaceNavigator SE, SpaceExplorer, SpaceTraveler, SpacePilot, SpaceBall 5000 USB, and SpaceMouse Plus USB), select Windows and then the 3DxSoftware 3.1.1 (beta) download.

Known issues are listed on the page with the download link. We encourage you to review before you download and install.

Please share comments with us in this forum. We appreciate your patience during the interval in which we were preparing this for beta release.

I downloaded the 3.1.1beta driver and tried to install on my Win2K machine.

Upon install, I run into an

"Error 1714. The older version of 3DConnexion 3DxWare cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."

I do in fact have an older version of 3DxWare installed for my serial SpaceMouse Classic, which I cannot uninstall by itself either. This is version 5.03.0003

Any hints?

Hello Methedras,

What happens when you try to uninstall the old 3DxWare driver in the W2K Add/Remove Panel?

Hi Jwick,

That gave me initially the exact same error message. It kept complaining about a missing *.msi file which I eventually managed to extract from the installer of the previous 3DxWare. I have by now been able to install the 3-1-1 driver.

I'll keep you posted on how it performs.
Thanks for your attention.

I had trouble fron the instructions deducing that one must click on the "Support" tab. The following might be simpler:

(1) Go to "Driver Download" at
http://www.3dconnexion.com/support/4a1.php

(2) In the three "Step" windows, select your product, operating system, and file (3DxSoftware 3.1.1 beta), then click on "Download Driver."

Got the driver downloaded on my Windows 2000 Pro system, and it installed easily and your control panel displays.

However, I have not been able to get any action 3Dconnection action on the control panel or on Google Earth 3.0.0762

Is Google Earth 4.x beta required?

Hello Mr. Collins,

Yes, Google Earth 4 is required. Changes were made to GE4 to support the 3Dx devices. These changes were not released until GE4 beta.

On the link, sure enough, that needs to be corrected. The sentence terminating period is creating an invalid link. I'll contact the PTB. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hello 3dconnexion,

meanwhile, I've done a little testing with a (USB) SpaceNavigaror PE and a (serial) SpaceMouse Classic.

PROs:
Driver 3-1-1 is API-compatible with the older version I was using for my SpaceMouse Classic.
Panel comes up on right button-click and settings are respected in my proprietary app.
Values are accessible from my proprietary app.
(I'm using only 3DxWare, without any add-ins or plug-ins).

CONs:
Driver 3-1-1 does not seem to support a serial SpaceMouse Classic.
I have not found a way to install both drivers (SpaceMouse Classic, Space Navigator) at the same time.

All in all, you guys have done a good job and well ahead of the timeframe I was afraid it would take. Any chance to make it a "unified" driver? Which devices are supposed to be supported anyways?

Regards,
Methedras
