Why is there no usable SDK?

Postby chrislu » Mon Nov 08, 2010 3:20 am

Hi,
my problem is that 3Dx changed the SDK for the third time. And still they are unable to provide an easy to use library to get values from their devices. The 3DxInput COM interface was really ugly but i was able to wrap it quite easily. Now they bring in an MFC interface where noone uses MFC anymore!

Why is it so hard to provide a header/lib with an easy interface to be used in countless environments? Like this i think is is unusable!

Also,
the SDK pages states:
What comes with the 3Dconnexion SDK
- Documentation and updates
- Sample Code in C++, Visual Basic and Java
- Example applications source code
- Exclusive Support Contacts
- Tips and Tricks

I can see no VB or Java Samples...

Developing Under Windows

Postby Jianju » Mon Jul 25, 2011 10:18 am

I'm just arriving on the development scene with reagrds to SpaceNavigator. I'll say one thing: I'm sold on the SpaceNavigator. It's awesome for moving around in 3D space! What boggles my mind is that this thread has been here for a year & there is still no SDK for Windows. How can I support it in my applications if years go by with no SDK?

hi Jianju,

An SDK is available (and has been for I as long as I can remember). Have a word with the API Support folk (go here and follow the "3Dconnexion SDK" link).

Hello, I'm new and I was just there. This is no SDK for windows download link.

Note:
The 3Dconnexion SDK for Windows is currently being redeveloped.
We will contact you when the new version is published.

You would think they would at least provide the previous SDK (old or not), even if they have plans to replace it.

WOW, I *finally* managed to get logged back in!!!

Postby Jianju » Tue Jul 26, 2011 3:16 pm

I had a ***TERRIBLE*** time getting this system to admit me back in! Seriously, I was about to give up. I had to request a new password many times, & all the while the system didn't recognize my login. (The website needs major work, in other areas as well.)

So, back to the topic at hand:

Thanks for the reply, but, like Samurle, I went through the multiple links to get *OH SO PRIVILEGED* access to the SDK that, to reiterate, is *NOT* there. What's wrong with a link to the old one & simply replace it when the new one is finished? Is it *THAT* bad that you don't want it on your website?

Sorry for the caps, but I'm frazzled just trying to get logged in here.

We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience. The SDK was pulled so that we can address some issues but we are still making an older version available on a case-by-case basis if you contact our API Support group.

I don't want to create a new topic, so I will update this one.
I had my SDK before and made some software with it. Now I need to fix some old bug in my software and my copy of SDK is gone (on backup =( ). I really need an old SDK for Windows (I use "Si" prefix functions) to make it work. Can I have a copy, cause I can't find it on your site and according to this topic you might send it on a request.

Hi mist-sc,
Can I have a copy
Sure. Please get in touch with the API Suport folk. The contact details are available on the SDK page (you need to have a "My3Dx" login).
